June Placement Auditions

Girls entering 5^th - 12^th grade in the fall are eligible, and highly encouraged, to attend choir camp in August so they can begin working on fall repertoire with their new choir.

Girls entering 1^st - 4^th grade will start choir in September. We would love to have you consider Summer Music Day camp in July as well.

Auditioning for the Seattle Girls' Choir is not as difficult as the term "audition" implies. Our auditions are a forum to get acquainted with you and a parent, hear your voice, and determine placement in our program. We look for potential, rather than polished performances. You will be asked to choose a solo and sing the first verse of "My Country 'Tis of Thee." We are quite informal with the youngest girls, and simple songs are just fine. Choose a solo that you like. Songs you choose need not be complicated -- we just want to hear you singing something you enjoy that demonstrates your voice. Your solo can be from a musical, a hymn, a folk song, something from a movie, a lighter popular song or an operatic aria or art song. (Please no rock).The rest of the audition is matching pitches, clapping rhythms and getting to know you!

Placement auditions are by appointment and held regularly in September, January, and June

The Seattle Girls' Choir, led by Jacob Winkler, is a national leader in choral and music training. There are five levels of instruction from beginning prep choir (ages 6-7) to advanced choirs (up to 18 or 19 yrs.). Instruction includes music theory, sight singing, ear training, vocal training, and performance skills.

REHEARSALS

We operate a full five-level program at our Choir Center in the North Capitol Hill neighborhood near Volunteer Park at 1300 East Aloha

"DOLCINE"

• Our Junior Preparatory Choir for girls ages 6 - 7
• Meets on Tuesday from 4:30 to 6:00

• Our Advanced Preparatory Choir for girls ages 8 & 9
• Meets on Thursdays from 4:30 to 6:30
  • Break for snacks midway through rehearsal
  • 6:00 - 6:30 being reserved for music theory classes.

• Girls ages 10 and older sing in Allegra,
• Meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 to 6:30
  • Break for snacks midway through rehearsal
  • Thursday 6:00 - 6:30 reserved for music theory class

• Our Intermediate Choir is comprised of mostly middle and high school aged girls.
• Meets on Mondays and Wednesdays
• Monday from 4:30 to 6:15
  • Rehearsal from 4:30 to 6:15
  • Dinner Break fromm 6:15 to 6:35
  • Music Theory instruction from 6:35 to 7:35
• Wednesday: Rehearsal from 4:30 to 6:30

• Our Advanced Choir has a full performance schedule and tours internationally
• Meets on Mondays and Wednesdays
